Weekly Memo Guidelines


Weekly Memo
In order to receive 8- 10 points on your weekly memos, you should be able to answer the following questions:
-        -  Did I explicitly relate the memo to this week’s readings?
-         - Did I use academic jargon well?
-          -Do the subject line and section headings use clear and precise language?
-          -Does the memo present a cohesive theme or series of themes?
-          -Does each paragraph have a topic sentence?
Common Errors
-          -Subject lines
o   Doesn’t identify memo theme/ topic
o   Verbose
o   Lacks string word choice
-          -Section headings
o   Doesn’t identify section theme/topic
o   Verbose
o   Lacks strong word choice
-         - Missing definitions of terminologies
-          -Shift in voice/ point of view
-          -The use of the word “it”
-          -Missing/ incorrect quotation citations
o   Title of the piece (secondary)
o   Title of the book (secondary)
o   Author
o   Year
o   Quotation
o   Page number
-        -  Font choice
-         - Length
-          -Spacing
o   Between memo headings (should be single spaced)
o   Between section headings and paragraphs (should be single spaced)
o   Between lines within a paragraph (should be single spaced)
o   Between paragraphs (should be double spaced)
